[EN] The main objective of this PhD work is to describe and analyze issues involved in the processing of taxonomic and thematic conceptual relations in different ways of presentation in patients with focal brain injury following a stroke. A series of tasks to assess the processing of thematic and taxonomic conceptual relationships through verbal and pictorial presentations have been implemented to a group of 60 patients who suffered a stroke classified according to the type of aphasia and the location of brain injury and 30 control participants without neurological or cognitive deficit. Participants were divided into two age groups, young and old. The results indicate that young and old stroke patients have different performance profiles. The former have mainly difficulties in the taxonomic relationships and the latter in both types of relationships. In turn, we note that the taxonomic relationships are more easily processed by pictorial way of presentation. Also, patients with fluent aphasia have major difficulties in establishing taxonomic relationships, more marked through drawings, while the non-fluent aphasia patients have greater difficulty in establishing thematic relationships. Moreover, the results suggest that left parietal brain areas appear to contribute especially to the processing of thematic relationships in the verbal way of presentation, while left and right temporal lobes seem to be more involved in establishing taxonomic relationships. On the other hand, the left hemisphere is more specialized in processing conceptual relations through drawings and the right hemisphere is more specialized in tasks that require establishing taxonomic relationships of greater complexity. Finally, the results suggest that thematic relations are processed independently by pictorial and verbal ways, while the taxonomic relationships would be processed primarily by way pictorial way.
