<title>La religión como foco temático en el discurso humorístico estudio exploratorio del encuadre discursivo textual</title>
<link>http://hdl.handle.net/10366/170862</link>
<description>[ES] El capítulo analiza la presencia de la religión en el discurso humorístico desde la perspectiva del análisis del discurso, centrándose en el concepto de encuadre discursivo textual. Su objetivo es identificar cómo los textos humorísticos construyen y reinterpretan lo religioso mediante estrategias lingüísticas y pragmáticas.&#13;
&#13;
A partir de un estudio exploratorio de diversos textos, se muestra que el humor no solo genera entretenimiento, sino que actúa como un mecanismo de resignificación que puede cuestionar, desacralizar o humanizar la religión. El significado resultante depende del encuadre adoptado, así como del contexto y la interpretación del receptor.&#13;
&#13;

<link>http://hdl.handle.net/10366/170860</link>
<description>[ES] El capítulo examina la homilía pronunciada por el actual cardenal presbítero de San Antonio de Padua en Vía Merulana en honor a San Antonio de Lisboa, desde un enfoque pragmático-discursivo centrado en la variación externa. El estudio analiza cómo factores contextuales —como la audiencia, el propósito comunicativo y la situación litúrgica— influyen en la configuración del discurso homilético.&#13;
&#13;
A través del análisis de recursos lingüísticos y estrategias retóricas, se evidencia que la homilía adapta su estructura y estilo para reforzar su eficacia comunicativa, combinando elementos doctrinales, persuasivos y exhortativos. Asimismo, se pone de manifiesto la interacción entre tradición religiosa y adecuación al contexto específico.&#13;
&#13;

<link>http://hdl.handle.net/10366/167872</link>

<title>"Yo vivo aquí y se vive muy tranquilo": Discourse viewpoint, pragmatic function and the placement of Spanish "yo"</title>
<link>http://hdl.handle.net/10366/165939</link>
<description>The formulation and placement of Spanish personal pronouns is a traditional topic of research on syntactic variation that has not yet received a comprehensive explanation. The present study focuses on expressed yo ‘I’ as a communicative choice in a corpus of readers’ comments on digital news texts. The first-person pronoun is approached as an element that explicitly anchors discourse in the viewpoint of the speaker, thereby specifying the cognitive domain in which the content is to be interpreted. A distinction is proposed between epistemic contexts, where either a personal stance or behavior is described, and epistemic-evidential ones, aimed at lending support to argumentation based either on personal witnessing or on life experience. Variation between the preverbal and postverbal placement of the pronoun is found to correlate with the different contextual types. Evidential uses exhibit very high frequencies of preverbal yo, in line with the self-attributed authority of the speaker. Conversely, the postverbal pronoun, while still entailing the construction of the speaker’s viewpoint into discourse, signals the fact that such viewpoint is not the dominant one. This can explain the association of this variant with epistemic contexts where predefined, often hypothetical situations are described. It is concluded that the development of a model based on the construction and interpretation of discourse viewpoint can be very beneficial in advancing knowledge of pronoun variation.

<title>Defocusing constructions, viewpoint, and reference. The shaping of public institutions vs. citizens in digital opinion pieces</title>
<link>http://hdl.handle.net/10366/164517</link>
<description>This study analyzes the configuration of reference with three initiator-defocusing Spanish constructions, namely the non-phoric plural third person (3PL), the audience-inclusive plural first person (1PL) and passive and impersonal reflexives (SE). The focus is on how these grammatical choices and their respective intended references contribute to the development of public argumentative discourse, specifically in a corpus of digital opinion pieces published in local media from Salamanca (Spain). While the use of 1PL and 3PL promotes a contrast between the viewpoint of 'us' (common citizens) and that of 'them' (public institutions), SE tends to present institutions as not clearly demarcated from the rest of the community. Quantitative and qualitative analysis suggests that the contextual identity adopted by the authors of opinion pieces oscillates between two other, more polarized ones in media discourse— that of journalists writing news pieces and stories, who need to preserve their status as well-informed and objective professionals, and that of particular commenters, whose usual anonymity grants them greater expressive freedom. It is concluded that each construction is primarily associated with a different kind of discourse viewpoint— subjective, intersubjective, and objective— and that this substantiates their contribution to different communicative styles and identities across media genres.

<title>Introduction. Variation, choice, and the construction of meaning</title>
<link>http://hdl.handle.net/10366/164516</link>
<description>The scientific study of linguistic variation has evolved from traditional models based on synonymy and correlational analysis to a conception of communicative choice as the construction of meaning in context. This has been made possible by the introduction of social constructivist approaches to language as a resource for the development of identities, as well as of functional and cognitive models whereby linguistic form is seen as undetachable from function. At the current stage of research, style appears as the fundamental concept on which a theory of variation should be built. Style does not merely concern the association of linguistic forms with social and situational factors, but also the potential to construct meaning at all possible semiotic levels. In this sense, one of the most relevant functions of variable grammatical choices is the establishment of discourse viewpoint, shaping a&#13;
continuum between subjectivity and objectivity along which cognitive-communicative styles can be placed. The analysis of desubjectivizing choices including initiator-defocusing constructions, as well as that of grammatical features related to modality, are currently among the most promising paths for research along these lines.
