It studies Unamuno's relationship with Socialism between 1914 and 1924, identifying a first, radical phase and then a short period of time in the early twenties when Unamuno tried to focus the workers' attention on political, rather than economic, concerns. Finally, it speculates about the nature and extent of Unamuno's influence on the Spanish Socialist Party over these years. Su biblioteca personal cuenta con las obras de más de ciento sesenta autores ingleses, sin contar los autores de los Estados Unidos. Sin embargo, en todos los trabajos que versan sobre Unamuno y la literatura y el pensamiento ingleses, así como la recepción de la obra de Unamuno en el mundo inglés, no hemos podido encontrar ninguna referencia a la relación entre Unamuno y el celebre escritor británico, H. G. Wells (1866-1946). Uno de los mejores estudios sobre Unamuno y la literatura inglesa, —aunque aporta mucho sobre Unamuno y su interés por la literatura inglesa de fin de siglo,— no menciona las lecturas que hizo Unamuno de Wells. No obstante, Unamuno cita a Wells en más de una ocasión y el escritor inglés dedica, por lo menos, uno de sus ensayos a Unamuno. El propósito primordial del presente trabajo es indagar acerca de la influencia de la obra de H. G. Wells en el pensamiento de Unamuno e intentar contestar a las siguientes preguntas: ¿Cómo y por qué Unamuno leyó a H. G. Wells? ¿Qué obras de Wells conoció Unamuno? y ¿Qué coincidencias y paralelos hay en las trayectorias del pensamiento de Unamuno y H. G. Wells?; [EN] It is a well-known fact that Unamuno was an avid reader of English literature, philosophy and thought. His personal library included the works of more than one hundred and sixty British authors, not counting writers from the United States. However, all the studies on Unamuno and English literature or those on the reception of Unamuno in the English-speaking world have failed to delve into the relationship between Unamuno and the celebrated English writer, H. G. Wells (1866-1946). We have found that on at least one occasion, Unamuno quoted Wells and that Wells dedicated at least one of his essays to Unamuno. It is the purpose of the present essay to explore the possible influence of the work of H. G. Wells on the writings and thought of Unamuno by attempting to answering the following questions: How and why did Unamuno read H. G. Wells? Which of Wells's work was he familiar with? What coincidences and parallels can we discern in the trajectories of Unamuno's thought and that of Wells? Gracias al principio de continuidad, muchos conceptos unamunianos adquieren consistencia ontológica e histórica, lo que hace más comprensible su persistente defensa de la tradición eterna frente al tradicionalismo atávico —no sólo en los ensayos finiseculares—, toda su teoría intrahistórica frente al positivismo histórico y frente a la mitología revolucionaria, y su defensa de la dialéctica alterutral contra los reprobables extremismos políticos.; [EN] The purpose of this assignment is to show the principle of the historical continuity in Unamuno: a permanent issue in his different stages as a writer and one of the mainstays where his historical personalism is based from the youthful contrast between evolution and revolution to the last months of his life when, in his essay Resentimiento Trágico he reconsiders what, in fact, Spain is. Thanks to the principie of continuity many of his concepts acquire a historical and ontological soundness, which makes his persistent defence of the eternal tradition versus the extreme traditionalism —not only in his late century essays- more understable, all his intrahistoric theory against the historical positivism and against the revolutionary mythology, and his defence of the alterutral dialectic against the reprievable political extremisms.
