Aportaciones de la correspondencia epistolar de Miguel de Irízar sobre música y músicos españoles durante el siglo XVII

Abstract

[ES] La correspondencia del compositor Irízar –conservadas en la catedral de Segovia- recoge un total de 362 cartas, recibidas en el periodo 1663-1684. Son numerosas las peticiones a Irízar para que componga música específica para una capilla, o para intercambiar obras de Galán, Patiño, etc., siendo algunas de estas composiciones el repertorio que se llevan a América los maestros. También escriben los músicos para recomendar a un discípulo o recomendarse ellos mismos, haciendo constar las características y habilidades del candidato, los instrumentos que tocan para realizar el continuo, o su destreza en la composición y ejecución a primera vista.

[EN] The correspondence of the composer Irízar which is conserved in Segovia Cathedral runs to a total of 362 letters, which were received in the period from 1663 to 1684. Many are requests that Irízar compose pieces of music for a particular chapel, or are offers of an exchange of works by Galán, Patiño, etc., and some of these works composed the repertoire which the music masters took to America. These are letters from musicians recommending pupils, or themselves, in which the writer extols the merits of the candidate, enumerating the instruments he can play as continuo or prasing his skill in composition and sight-reading.
