Las geólogas españolas de estos tiempos (de 1950 a 2007): vocacionales, trabajadoras y aún menos reconocidas

Abstract

[ES] En este trabajo se exponen los resultados de una encuesta elaborada con perspectiva de género y distribuida entre geólogas españolas durante el año 2007. La muestra es de 254 representativa de las contratadas en empresas privadas, las profesoras universitarias, las investigadoras del CSIC y las contratadas o funcionarias del IGME. Concluimos que las geólogas españolas son vocacionales, responsables y trabajadoras y sin embargo aún están menos reconocidas que sus compañeros varones, y tienen mayores dificultades para ascender profesionalmente o para alcanzar contratos estables. Además, se denuncian salarios más bajos, despidos por embarazo y otras actitudes y/o actuaciones sexistas. Por otra parte, persiste la dificultad de conciliar trabajo y familia porque el cuidado de ésta y, especialmente de los niños pequeños o de los mayores dependientes, sigue recayendo fundamentalmente sobre las mujeres. Las menores de 40 años reparten más equitativamente las tareas domésticas con sus parejas, desconocen el significado de conceptos como medidas de acción positiva o feminismo y mayoritariamente no se consideran feministas, aunque la mayoría de ellas reconocen que todavía no se ha alcanzado la igualdad entre sexos en la sociedad española del 2007.

[EN] This study describes the results of a survey devised from a gender perspective and given to Spanish women geologists during 2007. The sample comprised 254 women geologists representing those working in private firms, university lecturers, researchers in Spain’s Higher Council for Scientific Research and those working as civil servants and employees in the Geological and Mining Institute of Spain. It was concluded that Spanish women geologists are vocational, responsible and hard-working, and yet they receive less recognition than their male counterparts, and have greater difficulty moving up the professional ladder and in achieving stable positions. Moreover, they report lower salaries, loss of jobs owing to pregnancy, and other sexist attitudes and/or actions. They also have difficulty in reconciling work and family, since family care, especially of small children and dependent adults, is still considered fundamentally a woman’s job. Those under 40 years of age share household tasks more equally with their partners, are unaware of the meaning of concepts such as affirmative action or feminism, and most of them do not consider themselves feminists, even though most of them recognise that sexual equality has not yet been fully achieved in Spanish society in 2007.
