Abstract

[ES] El primer sudafricano (1979) de Fatima Dike narra la historia de Zwelinzima, Rooi, un joven mulato (su padre biológico era blanco) que vive en una ciudad negra de Sudáfrica con su madre, Feda, y su padrastro, Austin, ambos negros. La obra muestra los problemas que el color de piel le ocasiona a Rooi y a su familia. Ni la comunidad blanca ni la negra parecen aceptar a Rooi. Al final de la obra se incluye un glosario de términos en Xhosa y Afrikaans que aparecen en el texto. [EN] The First South African (1979) de Fatima Dike tells the story of Zwelinzima, Rooi, a colored young man (his biological father was white) who lives in an only-black South African township with his black mother, Freda, and stepfather, Austin. The play shows the problems that his skin color creates for him and his family. Neither the White nor the Black community seems to accept Rooi. At the end of the play there is a glossary of terms in Xhosa and Afrikaans that appear in the text.
