Kierkegaardian Dread and despair in Unamuno´s «El que se enterró»

Abstract

[ES] Según la autora de este artículo, la característica más notable de la obra literaria de Miguel de Unamuno es la unidad temática de su obra; el tema es a menudo descrito como un problema de personalidad. Ya que la personalidad es un tema principal en la obra de Unamuno y el acercamiento filosófico a su ficción puede ofrecer elementos para comprender sus problemas estructurales y temáticos, esto será el objetivo de este ensayo, además del análisis de una corta historia, "El que se enterró" comparándola con The Concept of Dread y Skness unto Death, dos obras del filósofo danés Kiekegaard, al cual Unamuno leyó con devoción desde 1900. Paucker dice que esta historia fue escogia porque trataba el problema de la personalidad y se relacionaba claramente con los temas de esas obras de Kierkegaard. La autora espera que esta comparación textual presentada aquí ayude a clarificar la relación entre Unamuno y Kierkegaard y su método de creación, para esta "concreción" de textos filosóficos se añade a nuestro conocimiento la variedad de usos que Unamuno hace de las palabras de otros y de las suyas propias.

[EN] According to the authoress of this article, the most salient characteristic of Miguel de Unamuno's literaty production is the thematic unity of his work; the theme is often described as the problem of personality. Since personality is a major subject in Unamuno's work and the philosophic approach to his fiction may offer insight into his structural and thematic problems, it will be the purpose of this essay to offer and analysis of one short story, "El que se enterró", by comparing it with The Concept of Dread and the Skness unto Death, two works by the Danish philosopher Kierkegaard, whom Unamuno read with devotion from 1900. Paucker says that this story was chosen because it treats the problem of personality and clearly deals with the Kierkegaardian themes stated in the titles of two works mentioned. The authoress hopes that the textual comparison presented here will help clarify both Unamuno's relationship to Kierkegaard and his method of creation, for this "concretion" of philosophic texts adds to our knowledge of the variety of uses Unamuno made of the words of others, as well as his own.
