Del mito de “la silla peligrosa” a la leyenda urbana de la aguja escondida y el contagio del SIDA

Abstract

[ES] Aunque las leyendas urbanas se consideren paradigmas del folklore moderno, sus orígenes se pueden rastrear en distintas culturas y diferentes épocas. Este artículo comienza presentado diferentes versiones de un rumor que se extendió por internet y que alertaba sobre posibles infecciones de SIDA mediante agujas ocultas en butacas de cines; y termina demostrando que se trata de un motivo común en la literatura universal: “el mito de la silla peligrosa”, del cual la mitología griega ya nos ofrecía la versión de Teseo y Pirítoo (o la de la cama de Procusto, por ejemplo) y la literatura medieval el asiento de Galaz en el ciclo narrativo de Parsifal. Asimismo, folklores tan alejados como el maya de Yucatán y el del pueblo de Luciana (Ciudad Real-España) dan debida cuenta de este tópico. [EN] Although urban legends are considered of modern folklore paradigms, its origins can be traced to different cultures and different times. This article begins with different versions of a rumor that was spread through the internet and warned about possible AIDS infections by hidden needles in movie theater seats; and concludes by showing that this is a common motif in world literature syllabus: the Greek mythology offered us the versions of Theseus and Pirithous trapped in the Hades or the Procrustean bed, and the arthurian literature the “Siége Perilous” of Galaz, for example. Furthermore, folklores as different as the Mayan of Yucatan or the Spanish of the village of Luciana (Ciudad Real) give due consideration to this topic.
