Magistrados e imposición de multas en las ciudades del occidente romano: la documentación epigráfica

Abstract

In this paper we analyze the participation of the magistrates of the municipalities and colonies of the Western provinces of the Roman Empire in the imposition and administration of fines. Through the epigraphic testimonies we study the crimes that were subject to fines, how much they cost, the impact they had on pecunia communis and how those revenues were spent. We will also have the opportunity to discuss the involvement of the magistrates and local senates in administrative and judicial proceedings arising from the imposition of a fine, especially in relation to the jurisdictional boundaries of the municipal institutions.

En este trabajo analizaremos la participación de los magistrados de los municipios y de las colonias de las provincias occidentales del Imperio romano en la imposición y administración de multas. A través de los testimonios epigráficos estudiamos los delitos que fueron objeto de penas pecuniarias, la cuantía de las mismas, el impacto que tuvieron en la pecunia communis y en qué se invirtieron esos ingresos. Asimismo, tendremos la oportunidad de discutir la implicación de los magistrados y senados locales en los procesos administrativos y judiciales derivados de la imposición de una multa, especialmente en relación a los límites jurisdiccionales de las instituciones municipales.
