Sobre el rey Syfax de Numidia

Abstract

In the development of the second Punic war is documented the existence of three great african kingdoms. the numidians of masaesyles, with syphax as leader, which was undoubtedly the most extensive and powerful. However, it turned out to be defeated by the masyles numidia, headed by masinissa. the roman victory over carthage was also associated with the fight between the two numidias. in this paper we study the data known about the reign of syphax: the problematic origins of the kingdom, its territorial extension, the coins minted by king, as well as the historical evolution of the reign of syphax.

En el desarrollo de la segunda Guerra Púnica está documentada la existencia de tres grandes reinos africanos. El de los númidas masaesyles, con syfax al frente, era sin duda el más extenso y poderoso. sin embargo, el mismo terminó siendo derrotado por la numidia de los masyles, encabezados por masinissa. la victoria romana sobre cartago se jugó también en buena parte en la lucha entre las dos numidias. En el presente trabajo estudiamos los datos conocidos sobre el reinado de syfax: los problemáticos orígenes del reino, la extensión territorial del mismo, las monedas acuñadas por el rey, así como la evolución histórica del reinado de syfax.
