Motivos de consulta de pacientes atendidos en un servicio de ORL en un hospital de segundo nivel

Abstract

Introduction and objective: Otolaryngology disorders can cause a wide variety of symptoms. In the present study, we describe the chief complaint and the epidemiological features of patients who attend a general ear, nose and throat consultation in a secondary level hospital. Method: This is a cross-sectional study that includes all patients who came for the first time to a general ENT consultation in the Hospital Costa del Sol (Marbella, Spain) from November 2013 to December 2014. Chief complaint, age and sex were recorded. Results: One thousand three hundred and thirty-three patients were included, 54.4% were women and 45.6% were men. Mean age was 45.4 ± 23.9 years. A bimodal distribution with peaks in the group of age 40-60 years and in the first decade of life was observed. Out of the study subjects, 54% referred ear-related symptoms, 29% had pharyngolaryngeal or neck related symptoms, and 17.5% nose related symptoms. Globally, the most frequent symptom was hearing loss, followed by nasal obstruction and dizziness. Conclusions: We observe that the study population covers all range of age and consists mainly of women. Although the chief complain were diverse, 75% of the patients referred one of the ten most frequent symptoms. The most frequent symptoms were related to ear problems.

Introducción y objetivo: Los trastornos otorrinolaringológicos dan lugar a una gran variedad de síntomas. Presentamos los motivos de consulta y las características epidemiológicas de los pacientes que acuden a la consulta de otorrinolaringología general de un hospital de segundo nivel. Método: Se ha realizado un estudio transversal que incluye a todos los pacientes que acudieron por primera vez a una consulta de otorrinolaringología general de un hospital de segundo nivel desde noviembre de 2013 a diciembre de 2014. Se tomón nota del motivo de consulta, la edad y el sexo de cada paciente. Resultados: Se incluyeron 1333 pacientes, de los cuales un 54,4% mujeres y un 45,6% fueron hombres. La edad media fue de 45,4 ± 23,9 años. Los pacientes que presentaban síntomas relacionados con patología otológica fueron un 54%, relacionados con patología faringolaríngea o cervical un 29% y relacionados con patología nasal un 17,5%. Globalmente el síntoma más frecuente fue hipoacusia, seguido de dificultad respiratoria nasal y de mareo. Conclusiones: Observamos que la población atendida comprende a individuos de todas las edades, con una distribución bimodal que presenta un pico en el grupo de edad entre 40 -60 años y otro en la primera década de la vida. Los motivos de consulta presentados fueron muy variados, aunque el 75% de pacientes consultó por alguno de los 10 motivos más frecuentes. Los motivos de consulta más frecuentes fueron los relacionados con los problemas otológicos. Las mujeres acudieron con más frecuencia a la consulta.
