Telefonía celular y el cáncer, un debate científico-tecnológico- público

Abstract

This article refers to the scientifictechnologic-public debate, in Europe and the United States, about the effects of the radio frequencies emitted by the stations of mobile phones over public health. This conflict is still valid, because of the different evidences presented by each of the contenders. Those contenders are, on one hand, the physics, and on the other hand, the doctors, biologists and epidemiologists, who try to establish a cause-effect relationship between the technology of mobile phones and the affectation of public health, through several researches. Also, it is important the analysis of the public perception of the risks of this technology, and the roll of the regulation entities and experts in the adoption of public policies in these matters. Finally, it is siginificant to explain how the evidences are interpreted by each of the contenders.

Este artículo trata sobre el debate científico-tecnológico-público, en Europa y Estados Unidos, debido a los efectos producidos por las Radio Frecuencias emitidas por estaciones base de telefonía móvil sobre la salud pública. Este conflicto se mantiene vigente debido a las evidencias presentadas por cada uno de los contendientes, tanto del lado de la física, electricidad y telecomunicaciones como de los médicos, biólogos y epidemiólogos quienes a través de estudios epidemiológicos, in vivo e in vitro, pretenden establecer una relación causal entre la tecnología de telefonía móvil y la salud pública. Por otra parte analizaremos la percepción pública del riesgo de esta tecnología, el papel del los organismos de regulación y la influencia de los expertos en la toma de decisiones políticas. Finalmente, se hará especial hincapié en el valor que tienen las evidencias ante la comunidad científica de cada uno de los opositores.
