[ES]El artículo evalúa el valor explicativo y los límites de la imagen del retraso cuando con ella se mide, no el progreso de la producción literaria ligada a una tradición cultural, sino la vigencia de las ideas poéticas que la respaldan. Desde esta premisa se propone esclarecer el lugar que ocupa el ideario poético de la literatura española en el conjunto de la tradición europea. El autor parte para ello del testimonio aportado por sus textos programáticos sobre el teatro del siglo xviii, considerando que proporcionan el documento más inmediato y fidedigno de su contexto poetológico. Las conclusiones animan a replantear la división periódica convencionalmente asumida por la literatura española.
[EN]The article evaluates the explanatory value and limits of the images of delay when measuring, not the literary production progress linked to a cultural tradition, but the validity of poetic ideas behind it. From this premise the clarification of the place of the poetics of Spanish literature in the whole European tradition is put foward. The starting point is the testimony given by their programmatic texts on eighteenth-century theater, considering that they provide the most immediate and reliable document of poetological context. The findings encourage to rethink the regular division conventionally assumed by Spanish literature.
