¿Animal político y animal disperso? La identidad del hombre aristotélico

Abstract

Among the Aristotelian fragments that qualify man as a political animal, the lines 487b33-488a13of Historia animalium –in which Aristotle points out some differences in the ways of life and the actions of certain animals–, have recently acquired great relevance. However, just as it happens with the most acknowledged references to the zoon politikon, the fragment brings great difficulties concerning the political way that life appears in comparison and contrast with other three ways of life: the gregarious, solitary and scattered ways of life. Accordingly, this article will try to understand the place of man in regards to the four aforementioned ways of life, considering that Aristotle seems to state that man “dualizes” between the political and the scattered ways of life, with the objective of understanding one of the main foundations of Aristotle’s political theory

Entre los textos aristotélicos que califican al hombre como animal político, han adquirido especial relevancia las líneas 487b33-488a13 de Historia animalium en las cuales Aristóteles señala ciertas diferencias entre los modos de vida y las acciones de algunos animales. Sin embargo, al igual que ocurre con las referencias más conocidas al zoon politikon, el fragmento presenta grandes dificultades pues el modo de vida de los animales políticos de Historia animalium aparece en relación y contraste con otros tres modos de vida: el de los animales gregarios, el de los solitarios y el de los dispersos. En este sentido, el presente trabajo intentará comprender el lugar del hombre con respecto a los cuatro modos de vida señalados, considerando que en el fragmento citado Aristóteles parece señalar que el hombre "dualiza" entre el modo de vida político y el modo de vida disperso, con el fin de alcanzar ciertas luces sobre uno de los fundamentos de la teoría política aristotélica.
