Abstract
This paper raises the question of whether some notions resident in Complex Systems can contribute to design and improve intelligent artifacts for dealing with problems in Systems Engineering related on the stability-plasticity dilemma. The Stability-Plasticity dilemma speak us about the difficulty to build tools that remain adaptative (plastic) in response to significant inputs, but remain stable in response to irrelevant input. In this paper it is proposed a model that, from a non-linear dynamical approach and based on recent result of olfactory systems, shows a way to implement mechanisms that satisfy both of these conditions.
