Un puente humanístico «Oltre l’oceano»: la inmigración italiana en Argentina a través de la mirada de escritores viajeros

Abstract

Italy has played a role all through the centuries thanks to the spirit of its inhabi- tants and its insuperable geographic location. It was the bridge between the two arcane entities of the Mediterranean and then between the Mare Nostrum and the West. Always harmonizing the classical Hellenic past with the modernist pragmatism. Having Italy been a country of migrants the last part of the 20th century, I have been feeling personally interpellated for about three decades by the study of the incidence of its migrations to the «Río de la Plata» and the Argentine «Pampa Gringa», where everything Italian has left a mark of positive identity value. This paper presents queries about that humanist matrix that the Italians brought along with themselves and which disseminated to where they settled. And, in particular, queries about the way in which it was the confirmed by the Italian traveler writers who reflected in in their writings.

Italia ha jugado un rol a lo largo de los siglos gracias al espíritu de sus habitantes y a su insuperable situación geográfica. Fue el puente entre las dos arcanas entidades del Mediterráneo y luego entre el Mare Nostrum y Occidente. Armonizando desde siempre el pasado helénico clásico con la pragmaticidad moderna. País de migrantes durante la última parte del siglo xix y la primera mitad del xx, me interpela personalmente desde hace tres décadas el estudio de la incidencia de sus migraciones en el Río de la Plata y en la Pampa Gringa argentina, donde lo itálico ha dejado una huella de marcada valencia identitaria positiva. Este trabajo presenta indagaciones sobre ese humanismo matricial que los italianos trajeron consigo y diseminaron en donde se radicaron. Y en particular sobre el modo cómo lo reflejaron los escritores viajeros que lo constataron.
