La comisión de los treinta: ¿un instrumento excepcional de la diplomacia cartaginesa?

Abstract

Some ancient writers mention a council that belonged to the Carthaginian Senate. This commission was made up of thirty members of high Socio-political status in Carthage. They would have acted throughout Punic history in diplomatic missions of special importance for the survival of the city. In general, this study investigates the existence of a specific instrument of this nature, examining the characteristics that can be drawn for the literary evidence, and its fields of action. It also aims to address the intrinsic problem of the analysis of Carthaginian political institutions from the perspective of Greco-Roman sources.

Algunas fuentes se hacen eco de la intervención de un consejo restringido dentro del senado cartaginés. Esta comisión, formada por treinta miembros de elevada consideración sociopolítica en Cartago, aparece en el relato histórico vinculada a misiones diplomáticas de especial trascendencia para la supervivencia de la ciudad. Por consiguiente, este estudio indaga sobre la existencia de un instrumento específico de esta naturaleza, examinando las características que aparecen en el testimonio literario y sus ámbitos de actuación. Asimismo, pretende abordar la problemática intrínseca al análisis de las instituciones políticas cartaginesas desde la perspectiva de las fuentes grecorromanas./n
