El abrigo de La Serradassa (Vistabella, Castelló) y su contribución a la definición del Arte Esquemático en Castelló

Abstract

This paper offers for the first time a comprehensive review of La Serradassa rock shelter (Vistabella, Castelló). The motifs and themes are also analyzed within the context of Schematic Rock Art of Mediterranean Iberia. The northern Valencian region is particularly rich in Levantine rock art and it also includes an exceptional number of Final Palaeolithic Rock Art sites. Schematic rock art, on the contrary, is poorly represented in this area, with a limited number of sites sufficiently significant to conduct comparative studies on a large scale. For this purpose, La Serradasa is one of the very few examples in the region with a substantial number of schematic motifs. Alongside with the characteristics of some of the motifs preserved at this site, this fact endows the site with a high interest in this territory, since it includes both motifs with parallels within the complex world of Schematic rock art, as well as unique –foot shaped figures– or uncommon motifs –with hands up in what is known as a praying figure or horned figures– in the Schematic repertoire of Mediterranean Iberia.

En este trabajo se presenta por primera vez el estudio completo del abrigo de La Serradassa (Vistabella, Castelló), analizando su contenido en el contexto del Arte Esquemático del Mediterráneo peninsular. La zona septentrional valenciana es especialmente rica en Arte Rupestre Levantino y también cuenta con un número excepcional de yacimientos con Arte Finipaleolítico. En cambio, el Arte Esquemático está escasamente representado, sin demasiados conjuntos de entidad que permitan realizar comparaciones a gran escala, siendo La Serradassa uno de los pocos en los que se conserva un importante número de motivos. Todo esto, unido a las características de los motivos conservados en el yacimiento, hacen de La Serradassa un yacimiento singular en este territorio, con claros paralelos dentro del complejo mundo del Arte Esquemático, pero también con elementos exclusivos –podomorfos– o poco comunes –orantes y motivos con cuernos– respecto a lo que hoy en día conocemos sobre este arte en la vertiente mediterránea de la Península Ibérica.
