Actitudes lingüísticas hacia el español en Brasil

Abstract

[ES]El presente trabajo tiene como objetivo principal analizar cuáles son las actitudes lingüísticas de los estudiantes de ELE del sistema paraeducativo de la ciudad de João Pessoa (Brasil) hacia cuatro variedades diatópicas del idioma; dos de ellas muy conocidas en el aula de ELE de los encuestados (la peninsular y la argentina) y otras dos con un papel más marginal (la mexicana y la peruana). Para ello, elaboramos un cuestionario que combina dos aproximaciones: la indirecta, en la que utilizamos la técnica del matched guise, y la directa, donde se plantean cuatro preguntas cerradas y una abierta. Han participado del estudio 95 estudiantes, con niveles entre A2+ y B2 del Marco Común Europeo de Referencia, pertenecientes a cuatro centros de estudios diferentes. Los resultados indicaron que los informantes tienen actitudes positivas hacia las cuatro variedades lingüísticas estudiadas, entre las que se destaca como más positiva la variedad peruana, cuyo grado de identificación fue muy alto, y como menos positiva la modalidad argentina. Concluimos que entre los factores que influyeron en esas actitudes están los rasgos fónicos más o menos reconocibles, el acercamiento a la modalidad prestigiosa (la española) y los prejuicios lingüísticos de los alumnos, construidos en gran parte por las políticas lingüísticas adoptadas por el gobierno brasileño a lo largo de los años.

[EN]The present work aims at analyzing what the linguistic attitudes of ELE students – in Language schools and the Language center (in João Pessoa city – PB, Brazil) - are towards the four diatopic variations of the language: two of them the well-known Peninsular and Argentinean, and the other secondary varieties, the Mexican and the Peruvian. In order to reach our objective, we make use of a questionnaire presenting two specific approaches: the indirect, in which we utilize the matched guise technique, and the direct, where we suggest four objective questions and a subjective one. About 95 students take part in our survey, from levels that range from A2+ up to B2 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, in four different language centers. The results show that the participants have positive attitudes towards the four studied linguistic variations, and that the most positive (and the one that the students most identify with) is the Peruvian. Besides, it can be said that the Argentinean is considered the least positive variety. Thus, we come to the conclusion that among the factors that contribute to such inclinations are the phonic characteristics (more or less perceived by the students), the level of closeness to the most prestigious variation (spanish), as well as the students’ linguistic prejudices that come from the linguistic policies adopted by the Brazilian government over the years.
