El gremio cuando interesa. Producción y comercialización de pañuelos de seda en Manresa (Cataluña) en el siglo XVIII

Abstract

The silk industry did not exist in the city of Manresa in the 17th century and it developed extraordinarily in the 18th century. The establishment of the veil weavers' guild was a consequence of this activity. The article is part of the debate on the return of the guild and, faced with the dilemma of modernisation or backwardness caused by the guilds, argues that it is the specificity of the context and the characteristics of the productive activity that shape the guild and that the guild is at the service of the interests of the members who are part of it.

La actividad sedera no existía en la ciudad de Manresa en el siglo XVII y tuvo un extraordinario desarrollo en el siglo XVIII. La constitución del gremio de tejedores de velos fue una consecuencia de la actividad. El artículo se enmarca en el debate sobre el retorno gremial y frente al dilema de modernización o retraso provocado por los gremios, defiende que es la especificidad del contexto y las características de la actividad productiva las que modelan el gremio y que este está al servicio de los intereses de los miembros que forman parte de él.
