Un comerciante riojanoburgalés en el emporio bilbaíno durante la transición del antiguo régimen al liberalismo: Ángel Martínez Vítores (1781-1847)

Abstract

In this paper we explore the trajectory of the Castilian businessman Ángel Martinez and how it reflects on different aspects of life in Spain at the end of the Ancien Regime period and beginnings of the modern world. Many of these questions have been treated before, but Martinez's career affords us some interesting new perspectives, living as he did at a time of great political, economic and social upheaval to which he necessarily had to adapt and did so with notable success in the period of transition between the old and new ways of life and ways of doing business.

Analizando el recorrido vital del comerciante Ángel Martínez confirmamos capítulos de la Historia Contemporánea española que, no por estudiados, están suficientemente agotados. Su trayectoria discurrió en una época convulsa de crisis políticas, económicas y sociales a las que tuvo que adaptarse. Testigo de lo que se ha dado en llamar la caída del Antiguo Régimen, reflejó los tópicos que acompañaron al segmento social al que pertenecía. Facetas modernas combinadas con otras tradicionales que, como hombre de transición, no pudo soslayar.
