Arremangando la camisa negra: la llegada del fascismo al Caribe hispano a mediados de los años 20

Abstract

Fascism showed an expansive nature from its origens, spontaneously at the beginning and later under the auspices of the government of Rome, through the Secretary of the Fasci Italiani all'Estero. The Hispanic Caribbean was not inmune to this process and since the mid-1920s, by means of the Italian inmigrants, engaged in a net that connect their Italian hearts to the distant Motherland. The Fascio de las Antillas was organized from Rome and clustered the groups from Cuba, Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico and, despite the number of Italian inmigrants could not be compared with other regions, it should not lose sight of the geostrategic advantages of this area for the fascist government of Italy. Relaying on family and business relationships mainly, fascism spread throughout the Greater Antilles.

Desde sus orígenes el fascismo mostró su naturaleza expansiva, de manera espontánea en un principio y bajo el auspicio del gobierno de Roma después, a través de los Fasci Italiani all'Estero. El Caribe hispano no fue inmune a este proceso y, desde mediados de la década de los años 20 por medio de los inmigrantes italianos, tomó parte de un ared que conectaba sus corazones italianos a la lejana Madre Patria. Desde Roma se organizó el Fascio de las Antillas, que agrupaba a Cuba, República Dominicana y Puerto Rico y, a pesar de que el número de inmigrantes italianos no pueda compararse al de otras regiones, no hay que perder de vista las ventajas geoestratégicas que presentaba la región para el gobierno fascista italiano. Apoyándose principalmente en las relaciones familiares y comerciales, el fascismo se difundió por las Antillas Mayores.
