Contribución al estudio del escultor Eugenio Duque. En torno a un nuevo retrato de Miguel Sainz Indo, obra inédita del artista

Abstract

[ES] El artículo profundiza en la trayectoria del escultor Eugenio Duque, artista poco conocido y estudiado, precisando diferentes cuestiones e informaciones sobre su producción. También saca a la luz y analiza en primicia un retrato inédito del indiano Miguel Sainz Indo, realizado por el artista en 1880, cuatro años después del fallecimiento del otrora emigrante. Este magnífico busto incrementa la iconografía existente sobre el efigiado, inmortalizado por el pintor Luis de Madrazo en vida, aparte de ser el protagonista de un monumento conmemorativo, obra de Ricardo Iñurria Arzubide, inaugurado en 1946 en el municipio vizcaíno de Carranza, su tierra natal. [EN] The article takes an in depth look at the career of the sculptor Eugenio Duque, an artist who is Little known and Little studied, and examines various aspects and information about his work. It also brings to light and analyses for the first time an original aculptural portrait of the indiano Miguel Sainz Indo, made by the artist in 1880, four years after the death of this former emigrant. This magnificent bust adds to the existing iconography of the efigy, inmortalized by the painter Luis de Madrazo, while Sainz Indo was alive. Moreover, Sainz Indo is the subject of a conmemorative monument by Ricardo Iñurria Arzubide, unveiled in 1946 in the Biscayan municipality of Carranza, Indo’s homeland.
