[ES] Durante el siglo XVIII surgieron en la España de Carlos III una serie de voces críticas contra una institución universitaria anquilosada, los Colegios Mayores, que representaban una amenaza al fortalecimiento regio desde tiempos de los Reyes Católicos en tanto que se enmarcaron en la administración moderna. Los encargados de dirigir este proceso fueron personas con influencias ilustradas cercanas a la monarquía que pretendían introducir novedades y renovar una enseñanza superior cuya jurisdicción pertenecía a la Corona. Es en este contexto en el que surge la figura de Felipe Bertrán, obispo de la diócesis de Salamanca y partícipe junto a otros como Pérez Bayer o Manuel de Roda de uno de los procesos educativos más importantes de la Edad Moderna, la reforma de los Colegios Mayores de Salamanca

[EN] It was during the 18th. century that appeared a series of critical voices against an obsolete university institution, that of the Colegios Mayores. These institutions, strongly rooted in the modern administration since the reign of the Catholic Monarchs, had the power to constitute a threat to the royal strenghening. Therefore, the ones in charge of leading this process were those close to the crown and influenced by the Enlightenment. These intellectuals wished for the renewal of a system strongly linked to the regal power. Hence, they wanted to introduce innovative features to reawake the aforementioned institution. It is in this context that the figures of Felipe Bertran, bishop of the diocese of Salamanca, appeared. He collaborated with other relevant figures like Perez Bayer or Manuel de Roda, among others, and together they succeded in promoting one of the most important educational processes in the Modern Age, that of the reform of the Colegios Mayores de Salamanca.
