The role of the fibrinolytic system in the migration of Fasciola Hepatica juveniles across the host intestine

Abstract

[EN] the main objective of this thesis is to expand our knowledge of host-parasite relationships during the early stages of fasciolosis, with a particular focus on the potential interplay between FhNEJ and the host's fibrinolytic system and the role of this interaction in the migration of these parasites through the host intestine. This knowledge may inform the identification of parasitic molecules that can be targeted for therapeutic or immunological interventions, ultimately leading to the development of novel strategies that prevent parasite maturation and block disease transmission within affected populations.

[ES] el objetivo principal de esta tesis es ampliar el conocimiento sobre las relaciones parásito-hospedador que se establecen durante las etapas iniciales de la fasciolosis, con un enfoque particular en la posible interacción entre los FhNEJ y el sistema fibrinolítico del hospedador, así como el papel que esta interacción podría desempeñar en la migración de estos parásitos a través del intestino de su hospedador definitivo. Este conocimiento podría llevar a la identificación de moléculas parasitarias susceptibles de ser objeto de intervenciones terapéuticas o inmunológicas, lo que contribuiría al desarrollo de nuevas estrategias destinadas a impedir la maduración del parásito y bloquear la transmisión de la enfermedad entre las poblaciones afectadas.

[CA] l’objectiu principal d’aquesta tesi és ampliar el coneixement sobre les interaccions hoste-paràsit durant les etapes inicials de la fasciolosi, posant èmfasi en la possible interacció entre les FhNEJ i el sistema fibrinolític, així com el paper que aquesta interacció podria desenvolupar en la migració d’aquests paràsits a través de l’intestí del seu hoste definitiu. Aquest coneixement podria facilitar la identificació de molècules parasitàries susceptibles de ser objecte d’intervencions terapèutiques o immunològiques, contribuint així al desenvolupament de noves estratègies que impedeixin la maduració del paràsit i interrompin la transmissió de la malaltia entre les poblacions afectades.
