Resumen
[EN]This chapter offers a critical review of the main issues associated with international retirement migration that have been discussed in preceding chapters. It is organized into three sections, each focused on a different area. The first addresses the agency of immigrants, as well as their expectations, behaviors, and strategic decision-making in their host country. The second discusses the available care and support resources—public, community, and family—for this group. The third presents a macro-structural analysis of the regulatory framework underpinning the European citizenship project and the impact that this has in the specific case of retirement migration. The misalignment and maladjustment within and between these three areas are understood as challenges for those seeking to enhance the exercise of social rights in the context of retirement migration.
