The article honors Vera Menchik, a chess player who overcame criticism and prejudice, checkmating the stereotypes and inequalities of her time. In a male dominated world, the young Russian champion proved that, in chess as in life, it is possible to compete on equal terms, without gender being a barrier to the ability to shine and achieve success.
