Colegios menores de la Universidad de Salamanca en la Edad Moderna: la Fundación de San Pelayo o Los Verdes (1546-1576)

Abstract

[ES] En la Universidad de Salamanca, durante la Edad Moderna, aparecieron numerosos colegios, uno de ellos fue el protagonista de este trabajo: el Colegio de San Pelayo o los Verdes. Concretamente, en esta investigación, se estudia su trayectoria en lo que se ha denominado como etapa fundacional, la cual se extendió desde 1546 hasta 1576. Estos fueron sus primeros años y, durante los mismos, el instituto se fue configurando y adquiriendo características muy particulares. A diferencia de otros centros, los Verdes fueron considerados como un colegio menor. Sin embargo, en este trabajo se duda de que realmente presentaran las características que le son adjudicadas a las instituciones de ese tipo. Con el fin de alcanzar certezas al respecto, el centro ha sido estudiado desde una perspectiva que pretende ser integral y transversal, sin prescindir de enfoques comparados para alcanzar un conocimiento suficientemente amplio y profundo, así como unas conclusiones sólidas y fundamentadas. Así las cosas, se estudia la configuración institucional del centro y su evolución a través del tiempo. Igualmente, se analizan las cuestiones económicas del mismo, tratando de averiguar cuáles eran su patrimonio, fuentes de financiación y solvencia. También, se ha prestado atención a su composición humana, así como a aspectos culturales y de la vida cotidiana. El resultado es una visión holística de la entidad y revela que los Verdes disintieron de los rasgos típicos de un colegio menor en sus primeros años.

[EN] At the University of Salamanca, during the Early Modern Age, numerous colleges appeared, one of which was the subject of this work: the Colegio de San Pelayo or los Verdes. Specifically, this research studies its trajectory in what has been termed the foundational stage, which lasted from 1546 to 1576. These were its early years, and during this time, the institute was being shaped and acquiring a series of very particular characteristics. Unlike other centers, the Verdes were considered a minor college. However, in this work, there is doubt that they actually displayed the characteristics attributed to institutions of that kind. In order to reach certainty regarding this, the center has been studied from a perspective that aims to be comprehensive and transversal, while also incorporating comparative approaches to achieve a sufficiently broad and deep understanding, as well as strong and well-founded conclusions. Given this context, the institutional configuration of the center and its evolution over time is studied. Similarly, the economic issues of the center are analyzed, trying to find out what its assets, sources of funding, and solvency were. Attention has also been paid to its human composition, as well as cultural aspects and everyday life. The result is a holistic view of the entity and reveals that the Verdes dissented from the typical characteristics of a minor college in its early years.
