| dc.description.abstract | This article argues for the need to develop a social history of political cultures and offers approaches and analytical tools for doing so from the perspective of relational social history, capable of examining the actual relationships between actors and ideas without resorting to determinism./n Applied to the history of reformism in eighteenth-century Spain, the article focuses on the networks of social, political and cultural actors who, within the framework of the jurisdictional and corporate monarchy, shaped an enlightened reformist political culture in the second half of the century. It analyses the formation of the social networks of the political and military cadres of Bourbon reformism, the internal characteristics of this reformist class, the ideological transformation it underwent as a result of the disruptive impact of Enlightenment political culture, and the contrasts and conflicts with the broader sectors of the jurisdictional and local elites that remained anchored in the inertia of jurisdictional and corporate culture. | |
