Entre lo necesario y lo inconveniente: la alcaldía mayor y auditoría general de Marina de Ferrol-A Graña (1734-1773)

Abstract

This article analyses, from a political and institutional perspective, the key aspects of the union between the chief magistracy of Ferrol-A Graña and the office of judge advocate of the Navy in the Ferrol Department during the period in which the two offices were joined together, from 1734 to 1773./n In particular, it seeks to clarify the reasons that supported this measure, the singular nature of the case —since it brought together offices belonging to two different jurisdictions, ordinary jurisdiction and naval military jurisdiction—, the formal and substantive problems arising from this situation, and the reasons for its subsequent separation within a favourable context in the higher administration.

Este artículo analiza en clave político-institucional los principales trazos de la unión entre la alcaldía mayor de Ferrol-A Graña y la auditoría general de Marina del Departamento ferrolano durante el periodo que duró la anexión (1734-1773). En particular, intento dilucidar los motivos que sustentaron la medida, la singularidad del caso al acoplar empleos de dos esferas jurisdiccionales diferentes —la ordinaria y la militar de Marina—, los problemas de forma y fondo derivados de la dualidad y las razones que llevaron a su posterior separación en un contexto propicio en la alta administración.
