Resumen

[EN] The chapter explores how three interlocking narratives of internment, Miné Okubo’s graphic memoir Citizen 13660 (1946), Julie Otsuka’s novel When the Emperor Was Divine (2002), and Karen T. Yamashita’s epistolary Letters to Memory (2017) illuminate and explore the production and reproduction of alterity within The United States. The three works create a layering of narratives (autobiography, novel, essay) written between the lines of the official propaganda that promoted the camps as booming frontier towns.
