Propiedades geotécnicas de la unidad arcosas del Teso Grande (Salamanca)

Abstract

Este trabajo se centra en el estudio y descripción de la unidad Arcosas del Teso Grande, en la que se cimientan gran parte de los edificios del centro histórico de la ciudad de Salamanca. Si bienla geología de la ciudad y su entorno urbano ha sido estudiada por numerosos autores a lo largo de las últimas décadas, hasta el momento sus propiedades geotécnicas no habían sido analizadas. El objetivo final es presentar una serie de parámetros de referencia para estos materiales a los que se puedarecurrir a la hora de afrontar cualquier tipo de construcción sobre ellos. Las Arcosas del Teso Grande constituyen una unidad tipo litológica, con características propias de un suelo, y están delimitadastanto a techo como a muro por materiales rocosos. Para su caracterización geotécnica se han realizadotanto ensayos de laboratorio como ensayos in situ. Además se ha estudiado la mineralogía de esta unidad por medio de análisis de difracción de rayos X. La unidad tipo litológica Arcosas del TesoGrande se ha dividido en dos unidades tipo geotécnico: una granular y otra cohesiva, con comportamientos geomecánicos distintos.

This paper deals with the Arcosas del Teso Grande geotechnical unit, which constitutes thefoundations of buildings placed in the city centre of Salamanca (W of Spain). Geology of the area hasbeen studied for several authors before, but a systematic characterization of their geotechnical propertieshave not been done until authors of this paper started to work on it. A fist approach to the mainparameters governing the mechanical behaviour of this unit has been done, which will be very usefulwhen dealing with construction activities on these materials. Arcosas del Teso Grande, a geotechnicalunit with soil features and located between rock materials, are described using either in situ andlaboratory tests. On the first ones, standard penetration tests data have been analyzed, as well asvelocity of P seismic waves. On the laboratory test, particle size distribution, mineralogy, moisturecontent, Atterberg limits, bulk and dry density, specific gravity, void ratio, Lambe swelling index,overburden pressure, oedometric , uniaxial compression and finally direct shear tests have been done.Arcosas del Teso Grande geotechnical unit has been divided in two subunits: the granular and thecohesive one, with different geomechanical behaviour, according to the investigations carried out.
