Pie a tierra: por la distinción entre la Prehistoria y la Arqueología

Abstract

En este artículo se retoma la cuestión, vieja pero irresuelta, de la diferencia entre Prehistoria y Arqueologia, y se intenta definirlas como dos ciencias según la fórmula tradicional, esto es, distinguiéndolas por su objeto material y especialmente por su objeto fomal. Sin embargo, vista lo incorrección filosófica de ese camino, el autor esboza luego la consideración de dos dominios, atendiendo a la especificidad de sus problemas respectivos. En la línea de L. S. Klejn, se propugna la necesaria separación de ambas disciplinas comopremisa imprescindible pura su pleno desarrollo.

This paper takes up again the old but unresolved question of the distinction between Prehistory and Archaeology, and it attempts to definite them as two separate sciences in accordance witl the traditional criteria, that is to say, by means of their material object and, specially, their formal object. However, in view of the philosophical inadequacy of these criteria, the author proceeds to outline two separate scientific domains on the basis of the singularity of their specific problems. Following L. S. Klejn's view, the paper advocates the necessary separation of both disciplines as an indispensable premise for their full development.
