La revolución cognitiva en la sociedadactual: nuevos retos educativos

Abstract

Las modificaciones promovidas al amparo de la nueva sociedad comportan numerosos retos para los individuos y para los diferentes contextos en los que éstos interaccionan. Una de las principales modificaciones, sobre la que apenas se ha reflexionado o teorizado, afecta al dominio cognitivo de los sujetos. Debido a las nuevas características que presenta la información se empiezan a exigir nuevas habilidades cognitivas, relacionadas con nuevas formas para acceder, procesar y generar conocimiento. Todas estas habilidades van a presentar algunos retos en la esfera educativa, por ser éste ámbito el que se ha venido encargando de desarrollar las funciones cognitivas de los sujetos. Y por ello, se espera que desde la educación se reflexione sobre las nuevas demandas y se promuevan las competencias esenciales para responder ante los cambios presentes en la revolución cognitiva actual.

Important challenges are arising in the new Information Society. These changes are affecting individuals and the educational in witch they interact. One of the main modifications is related to the cognitive domain of subjects, due to the new characteristics that information is taken on at the moment. These characteristics are beginning to demand new cognitive abilities related to new ways to access, process and generate knowledge. All these abilities are the responsibility of educational systems, as they have traditionally been charged with the development of cognitive functions. These abilities will present some challenges in these systems, because the new demands are rather different from conventional ways of managing and operating with information. Educational systems will have to face up to new cognitive challenges and develop essential competences to respond to present changes in the current cognitive revolution.
