Sobre García de la Huerta, teórico y traductor

Abstract

[ES] El ensayo afronta dos facetas notoriamente controvertidas de García de la Huerta rescatándolas del menosprecio que han solido reservales los críticos. De un lado, se muestra la sensatez y la «normalidad» de muchas de las aseveraciones teóricas de Huerta, y del otro, su modus operandi como traductor a partir de un cotejo pormenorizado del texto de Xaira con el original voltairiano. En él, Huerta ha sabido ser fiel al espíritu del original a través de una traducción relativamente literal, en la que ha intervenido con ampliaciones y cambios estructurales que han dado al texto el sello inconfundible de una obra española y el carácter de una obra clásica y al tiempo romántica, como es el propio Zaïre: no sólo por el tema, sino sobre todo por el deseo y la capacidad de explicitar, con una dicción intensa, natural y arrebatada, aquellos sentimientos que el teatro romántico europeo aspira a expresar de forma inmediata emulando la música, y especialmente la ópera de la época, que vive a su lado inyectándole aspiraciones y logros.

[EN] This essay deals with two notoriously controversial facets of García de la Huerta, rescuing them from the contempt critics have customarily reserved for them. On the one hand, the essay shows the common sense and «normality» of many of Huerta’s theoretical statements, and on the other, his modus operandi as translator, based on a detailed comparison of the text of Xaira with the original by Voltaire. In it Huerta succeeded in being faithful to the spirit of the original by means of a relatively literal translation, in which he intervened with elaborations and structural changes that have conferred upon the text the unmistakable seal of a Spanish work, as well as the character of a work both classical and romantic, as Zaïre itself is: not only for its theme, but above all for its desire and ability to make explicit, with an intense, natural and passionate diction, the feelings that European Romantic theater aspires to express in an immediate way, emulating the music, and above all the opera, of the age, injecting into it aspirations and achievements.
