[EN]We'll try show in this article the importance that hymns have had in all times all along the countries. This is clearly seen through the universal tendency that has always existed to associate the hymn itself to the hopes and spirit of a people. This working method can be the right one for the study of folk music in any country, trying not only to analyse the melodies, rhythms and dancings but also to go beyond the musical tones to understand the centuries of history that can be found underneath, as well as the messages that tell us of pain, love, war and hope. The article is organized in three parts: 1) Comparative historical analysis 2) Comparative musical analysis 3) «Inno delle Nazioni» by Giuseppe Verdi
