Aproximación al esperantismo socialista en España (1906-1936)

Abstract

[ES] A principios del siglo XX, el movimiento obrero de signo socialista comenzó a desarrollar un variado y complejo programa de acción cultural encaminado al logro de una militância identificada con los planteamientos de las organizaciones partidistas y con capacidad de influencia en el medio social al tiempo que instruida, culta y poseedora de un conjunto de «virtudes» y rasgos que definirían al «obrero consciente ». Una de las actividades que configuraron ese mundo de sociabilidad cultural fue la difusión del esperanto como vehículo de relación entre los trabajadores de distinto origen. El propósito de nuestro trabajo es desentrañar la génesis y evolución del esperantismo socialista, sus grupos y animadores más significados, el conjunto de las actividades que pusieron en marcha y el alcance de las mismas. Conocer y analizar, en suma, la obra de quienes creyeron ver en esa lengua universal uno de los instrumentos principales para alcanzar la unidad de los proletarios.

[EN] At the beginning of the twentieth century, the workers' movement of socialist tendencies began to develop a diverse and complex programme of cultural action directed towards achieving active members identified with the ideas of partisan organizations and capable of influencing the social milieu. At the same time these members would be learned and cultured and would possess a set of «virtues» and traits that would define the «conscious worker». One of the activities that formed this world of cultural sociability was the diffusion of Esperanto as a vehicle for communication among workers of different countries. The aim of this article is to puzzle out the genesis and evolution of the socialist Esperanto movement, its most significant groups and supporters as well as the activities they set into motion and their scope. In short, to study and analyze the work of those who thought they had found in this universal language one of the principal instruments for achieving the unity of the proletariat.
