Las cofradías de oficios en el País Vasco durante la Edad Media (1350-1550)

Abstract

[ES] Este artículo estudia las cofradías de oficios de la Comunidad Autónoma Vasca durante la Edad Media. La diversidad económica de las provincias de Álava, Guipúzcoa y Vizcaya se vio reflejada asimismo en el nacimiento y formación de este tipo de organizaciones asociativas. Este trabajo analiza la variada tipología de cofradías y corporaciones en el País Vasco, su papel como asociaciones de Hermandad y de integración social, sus estructuras organizativas, la regulación de las actividades económicas de los oficios y su capacidad de influencia en los concejos urbanos o, en su caso, el acceso de miembros de estas cofradías a los poderes políticos locales.

[EN] This paper studies trade confraternities in the Basque Autonomous Community during the Middle Ages. The economic diversity which could be found in the provinces of Álava, Guipúzcoa and Biscay was also reflected in the birth and constitution of this type of associative organizations. This study investigates (i) the varied typology of confraternities and corporations in the Basque Country, (ii) their role in social integration and as Brotherhood associations, (iii) their organizing structures, (iv) the way confraternities regulated the economic activities of trades and (v) the scope of their influence on urban councils or, if that was the case, (vi) the rise of confraternity members to local governing bodies.
