Un espacio sin poder: la transierra extremeña durante la época musulmana

Abstract

RESUMEN: Sobre el territorio septentrional de la actual Extremadura durante la etapa musulmana se ha ido formando una serie de ideas que, pese a su falta de constatación, han conseguido arraigar en la historiografía. Entre las más destacables figuran su pleno sometimiento al poder cordobés a lo largo del periodo omeya, la existencia de numerosas fortalezas en la zona o su integración en un sistema defensivo en la última etapa musulmana. El objetivo de este artículo es plantear la posible evolución de este ámbito espacial en dicha etapa y cuestionar aquellos supuestos que resultan ajenos a la realidad pretendidamente analizada.

ABSTRACT: Several ideas about the Northern area of the present Extremadura during the Muslim period have taken form, in spite of the lack of verification, and have managed to take root in the historiography. Among the most prominent ideas, we can find the complete submision to the power of Cordova during the Umayyad age, the existence of numerous fortresses all over the area and their integration in a defensive network in the last phase of the Muslim period. The main aim of this article is to analyze the possible development of this sphere in this period and to question those suppositions that are very far the reality of the area under analysis.
