«Las tres ilustres ordenes y religiosas cavallerias» Instituidas por los Reyes de Castilla y León: Santiago, Calatrava y Alcántara

Abstract

[ES] Se examinan de manera resumida tres tipos de cuestiones referidas todas ellas a las órdenes castellanas de Santiago, Calatrava y Alcántara, en las épocas medieval y moderna (siglos XIl-XVIl). Se ocupa en primer lugar de dos momentos claves en la vida de estas instituciones: la fundación y principios y la incorporación de sus maestrazgos a la Corona de Castilla. Analiza igualmente la estructura institucional y la caracterización de estos corpora, así como la forma de gobierno a la que estuvieron sujetos. Finalmente, y también de manera esquemática, se revisa su misión fundacional y el papel que, de acuerdo a ella, se les asignó tanto en la época medieval como en la moderna.

[EN] This article refers, briefly, to three types of questions concerning Castilian Military Orders: Santiago, Calatrava and Alcántara during Medieval and Early Modern periods (XII-XVII centuries). In first instance it deals with two basic moments in the life of these institutions: the foundation and the beginnings and the Incorporación de los Maestrazgos to the Castilian Crown. At the same time it analyses the institutional structure and the characterization of these corpora as well as the form of government they were submitted to. Finally, and also in a schematic way, its foundational mission is examined and the role they played according to this mission during the Medieval and Early Modern periods.
