Mercaderes propietarios de ganado trashumante en la cuadrilla mesteña soriana en los siglos XVI y XVII

Abstract

[ES] Para avanzar en el conocimiento de la base social de la Mesta, el autor analiza en este artículo la figura del mercader propietario de ganados trashumantes en el ámbito regional que abarcaba el partido mesteño de Soria, en el marco cronológico de los siglos XVI y XVII. Presta en primer lugar atención a la caracterización de los mercaderes vecinos de la ciudad de Soria dueños de ganado ovino trashumante, y da cuenta de cuáles fueron los periodos principales en que accedieron a la propiedad de este tipo de ganado, preferentemente mediante compras. Y, en segundo lugar, valora la presencia de numerosos mercaderes que fueron a la vez destacados ganaderos trashumantes en pequeñas aldeas de la comarca serrana de la Tierra de Yanguas, al norte de Soria.

[EN] In order to get a more acurate understanding of the social structure of the Castilian institution of the «Mesta», the author analyzes in this article the figure of the merchant that w2iS also owner of transhumant sheep flocks, in the region that embraced the Mesta district of Soria, during the sixteenth and the seventeenth centuries. In the first place he pays attention to the characterization of the merchants who resided in the town of Soria and owned transhumant sheep flocks, and he gives account of the main periods when they acquired these flocks, usually by purchase. And secondly, he gives account of the presence of a big number of merchants, who also owned transhumant sheep flocks, in many tiny hamlets of the mountain region of Yanguas, north of Soria.
