De Verribus Vettonum. El verraco de Talavera la Nueva (Toledo) y algunas notas sobre la arqueología de las tierras orientales vetonas

Abstract

[ES] Las excavaciones que uno de nosotros realiza en la villa romana de Saucedo (Talavera la Nueva, Toledo) permitieron conocer la existencia de un verraco, prácticamente inédito1. El estudio del mismo, así como los pormenores de su hallazgo y traslado al Museo de Santa Cruz de Toledo, nos ofrece la oportunidad de presentar un status questionis sobre las esculturas zoomorfas de la meseta occidental. Al mismo tiempo, el artículo pretende hacer una revisión del contexto arqueológico y cultural de las tierras toledanas donde se halló el nuevo ejemplar zoomorfo, que adquiere una significación especial al tratarse de un territorio de transición entre vetones y carpetanos en los momentos finales de la Edad del Hierro.

[EN] The excavation undertaken by one of the authors in the Román town of Saucedo (Talavera la Nueva, Toledo) revealed the existance of a verraco of an almost unknown type. A study of it, together with the detaills of its discovery and removal to the Santa Cruz Museum in Toledo, provide us with the opportunity to describe the status questionis on the zoomorphic sculptures of the western meseta. At the same time, the article sets out to review the archaeological and cultural context of the Toledo área where the new zoomorphic specimen was found. This is of particular significance since the área was one in transition between Vetons and Carpetans at the end of the Iron Age.
