El internacionalismo de las órdenes 'hispanas' en el siglo XIII

Abstract

[ES] Nuestro objetivo es demostrar que es incorrecto hablar de órdenes militares puramente "hispanas" en el siglo XIII (al menos en su primera mitad), ya que durante gran parte de él su vocación fue internacional; y no se pretendió que se circunscribieran a las fronteras de Castilla-León o de los reinos peninsulares, ni que sus integrantes fueran únicamente de sangre hispana. El núcleo del presente artículo lo conforma un nuevo estudio reinterpretativo de la presencia de la orden militar de Calatrava en el Báltico, aportándose nuevos documentos sobre la presencia y relación de las órdenes militares de Calatrava y Santiago en Alemania. La implicación de las órdenes militares en esta área será la línea argumental principal aunque, por supuesto, se hará referencia a otros frentes extrapeninsulares donde estas órdenes participaron.

[EN] The core of this paper is a new study, with a new approach and docurnents, on the presence of the "Spanish" military order of Calatrava in the Baltic. We will make use of this exarnple, together with other ones about the relationships of the peninsular military orders of Calatrava and Santiago with other crusading fronts such as the Holy Land and the Baltic, to try to prove that it is not correct to talk about "Spanish milttary orders", as far as the first half of the 13th century is concerned. These orders as weil as the "international" military orders of the Temple and Hospital, were present in different crusading fronts and had international recruitrnent. However, things started changing from the rniddle of that century.
