Whether from a methodological point of view the transliteration of Linear A text by applying the phonetic values of corresponding symbols of the Linear ? script is permissible is still a non-settled issue. In Documents already one finds the warning that reshuffling of phonetic values might have occurred in the creation of the latter script. Also the results obtained by the application of that method are contradictory, which may hold it in suspense. However, if the theory of Schachermeyr, supported by Hooker, on the Minoan creation of the Linear ? script, which obviously has its merits, is accepted, the likelihood of identity of the phonetic values of the symbols in both scripts is increased.en_EN
