La agricultura ibérica del Levante en su contexto mediterráneo

Abstract

RESUMEN: La agricultura ibérica, como la sociedad o el arte, se explica dentro de un contexto mediterráneo determinado. Seguramente le debe mucho a la agricultura cartaginesa (o fenicia en general), pero de ella sabemos poco; en cambio, puede tener un punto de referencia útil en las obras de Jenofonte yTeofrasto. Se plantea asimismo la necesidad de estudiar las condiciones climatobotánicas de un territorio para conocer sus recursos agrícolas; se habla de los cultivos y de las herramientas, haciendo hincapié en la trascendencia del empleo del arado con rejas de hierro. Finalmente, se someten a discusión algunas ideas sobre la condición social de la mano de obra, la propiedad de la tierra, y desajustes en el nicho ecológico, mirando de reojo a la península italiana.

ABSTRACT: Iberian agriculture, the same as society or art, takes its real meaning in a specific Mediterranean context. It surely owes much to the legacy of Carthaginian (or Phoenician, in general) agriculture, about which we have little knowledge; instead, we do find a useful reference point in Xenophon and Theophrast's works. The need also arises to study the climatic-botanical conditions of a territory in order to know its agricultural resources; we refer to cultivations and tools focusing specially on how important the use of the iron ploughshare turned out to be. Finally, we deal with some issues related to labour force social conditions, land property and niche imbalances, always looking at the Italian Peninsula out of the corner of our eye.
