Gosuintha, el fracaso de una coniux real

[ES] Atanagildo usurpó el poder a Agila en 551 con el consentimiento tácito del Emperador Justiniano quien, de esta forma, evitó proseguir con su costosa renovatio imperii. Pero la falta de herederos varones no garantizaba una independencia duradera al regnum gothorum. Por ello, Gosuintha se afanó durante toda su vida y, especialmente, cuando fue esposa de Leovigildo, por trabar lazos de parentesco con la poderosa y legítima dinastía merovingia.

[EN] King Athanagild misappropriated Agila’s power in 551 having the implicit consent of the emperor Justinian who, that way, could avoid to continue with his expensive renovatio imperii. But the lack of male heirs didn’t guarantee a lasting independence to the regnum gothorum. It was for this reason that queen Gosuintha, throughout all her life, went to a lot of trouble, and specially when she got married to king Leovigild, to make ties of relationship with the powerful and legitimate Merovingian dynasty.
