Poder político y dominación social: la función justificativa de los ángeles en el mundo visigodo

Abstract

[ES] En el presente artículo se abordan las relaciones existentes entre la corte toledana, una vez convertida al catolicismo, tras el año 589, y las imágenes que se proyectan del mundo celestial, en especial de los ángeles, que son concebidos como súbditos fieles de la divinidad, entendida como imagen del buen gobernante. Las ideas de fidelidad y traición se entremezclan para así constituir un conjunto de valores que actúan como elemento sancionador de la nueva realidad social.

[EN] The present article approaches the relations between the Court at Toledo, after it had converted to Catholicism in 589, and the images projected of a celestial world, especially angels, which were conceived as faithful subjects of the divinity, understood as the image of a good ruler. The ideas of faithfulness and betrayal intermingle to make up a set of values that act as a sanctioning element of the new social situation.
