El fenómeno de downsizing en la economía española: un análisis de los motivos y modalidades utilizadas

Abstract

[ES]El presente trabajo analiza la importancia y evolución temporal del downsizing en la economía española, las características de las empresas que llevan a cabo estas prácticas y los motivos y modalidades empleadas, así como la influencia de todo ello en la magnitud del recorte de plantilla. Para ello se ha utilizado una muestra de 354 anuncios de prensa y se ha abarcado el intervalo de tiempo comprendido entre 1995-2001. Los resultados muestran que se emplean otros mecanismos distintos al despido, aunque éste es el más frecuente. De igual modo, reflejan que aunque también las empresas saneadas optan por realizar downsizing, son las que atraviesan por una situación de crisis interna las más proclives a implementar esta medida.

[EN]This paper analyzes the importance and temporal evolution of downsizing in the Spanish economy, the characteristics of companies that carry out these practices and the motives and methods employed as well as the influence of all in the magnitude of the reduction in the workforce. To do this we have used a sample of 354 newspaper ads and has covered the time interval between 1995-2001. The results show that using other mechanisms other than dismissal, although this is the most common. Similarly, show that even healthy firms also choose to conduct downsizing, are going through an internal crisis the most likely to implement this measure.
