Antiparlamentarismo y nacionalismo en la ideología de la dictadura de los coroneles

Abstract

RESUMEN: Este artículo analiza la ideología de la dictadura de los Coroneles (1967-1974) y su genealogía, examinando la ideología de su figura más representativa, Georgios Papadopoulos. Aunque planteó la necesidad de debilitar el parlamento y fortalecer el ejecutivo, los textos constitucionales de 1968 y 1973 tendieron a asegurar la supremacía de las fuerzas armadas dentro del sistema de poder político: el antiparlamentarismo de la dictadura estuvo poderosamente influido por el militarismo mientras que la principal tradición antiparlamentaria griega era de naturaleza política. El artículo también muestra que la Junta aceptó una forma de liberalismo económico y explica cómo la percepción que la dictadura tenía de la nación reforzó su antiparlamentarismo, mientras al mismo tiempo éste quedaba incompleto. ABSTRACT: This article analyses the ideology of the colonels’ dictatorship (1967-1974) and its genealogy, by examining the ideology of its most powerful figure, Georgios Papadopoulos. Although he stressed the need to weaken the parliament and strengthen the Executive, the constitutional texts of 1968 and 1973 tended to secure the supremacy of the armed forces within the system of political power; the antiparliamentarism of the dictatorship was heavily influenced by militarism, while the main Greek antiparliamentarian tradition was of a political nature. The article also shows that the junta accepted a form of economic liberalism and it explains how the dictatorship’s perception of the nation reinforced its antiparliamentarism, while at the same time it left it incomplete.
