Características del régimen Salazarista

Abstract

RESUMEN: El Estado Novo se institucionalizó con la Constitución de 1933 aunque sus orígenes arrancan del golpe de Estado de mayo de 1926 y su vigencia se prolongó hasta el 25 de Abril de 1974. Fue un régimen autoritario, con algunas semejanzas con el fascismo genérico aunque no puede confundirse con éste. Frente al estado totalitario la dictadura portuguesa quiso un Estado fuerte pero limitado por el derecho de gentes y la moral. Tuvo coincidencias con los totalitarismos: un partido único, la Unión Nacional; una milicia, la Legión Portuguesa; una organización de encuadramiento juvenil, la Mocidade. Pero ni los sindicatos nacionales, ni la policía política ni la intensidad de la represión tienen similitudes con los otros regímenes similares europeos. Tampoco el imperialismo puede compararse. It was an authoritarian regime, with some similarities to the generic fascism though it cannot be confused with this one. Opposite to the totalitarian state the Portuguese dictatorship wanted a strong but limited state by the law of nations and morality. It had coincidences with totalitarism: the only party, the National Union; a militia, the Portuguese Legion; an organization of juvenile straddle, the Mocidade. But neither the national unions, nor the political police nor the intensity of the repression have similarities with other similar European regimes. Of couse, imperialism cannot be compared to it.
